Tea is an aromatic non-alcoholic beverage, it is prepared from the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, an Asian shrub. It is the second most consumed beverage after water. The growth of the MENA hot tea market is attributed to the increase in awareness of the health benefits associated with the consumption of hot tea, increase in consumer base across the MENA region. Tea offers several health benefits owing to the presence of antioxidants, flavanols, tannins, and other ingredients in it. Egypt has been one of the largest tea import markets as the country is ranked in top countries among the world import markets for tea. The population of Egypt's consume 65,000 to 75,000 tons of tea annually. In Egypt, tea is mainly imported from Kenya and Sri Lanka. Moreover, there are two categories of tea consumed in Egypt named as koshary and saiidi. Koshary is generally found in northern Egypt and prepared with sweetened cane sugar and fresh mint leaves. Furthermore, Saiidi is more commonly consumed in southern Egypt, which is usually drunk black and sweetened with large volumes of cane sugar.

Whereas in Iran, black tea has been the most popular hot beverage in the last decades. Tea consumption of about 120,000 metric tons per year was recorded in 2015 and almost 98% of tea consumption is black tea. People in Iran drink an average of 1.5 kilos of tea annually. However, green tea is one of the significant growing tea followed by flavored teas in Iran, owing to rise in awareness on health and wellness.

In Oman, there is an increase in the popularity of Karak tea and now it has become a part of Omani popular culture, which drives its adoption. Moreover, Karak tea outlets are becoming hubs for social rendezvous involving friends. As there is rise in the import of tea in Oman, number of international players are expanding their presence in Oman, which is opportunistic for the market. For instance, in February 2018, Girnar which is a popular tea brand in India, has made its entry into Oman. Girnars tea line in Oman will offer connoisseurs a variety of blends that would include instant premixes, tea bags as well as loose tea and detox kahwa. Furthermore, in March 2018, Oman has proposed Iran to jointly produce various types of herbal teas.

The UAE has been one of the countries having millions of tea and coffee lovers. According to International Coffee and Tea Festival, about 19,000 kg of tea is consumed across the country daily. Moreover, according to the Dubai Tea Trading Center, the country consumes about seven million kilograms of tea annually leading to tea being the second most consumed drink in the country. Indian Tea has seen a great demand in the Dubai Market as its people are willing to pay for good quality Tea. Moreover, black tea has been the major choice of tea across the country.
